Georgian opposition holds meeting with European emissaries
The Georgian opposition holds a meeting with European partners.
The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag, Michael Roth, is in Tbilisi, as well as the heads of the foreign policy committees of the parliaments of Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Finland and Poland.
The Georgian Dream is not known to be present at the meeting, Caliber.Az reports.
Earlier, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said that 13-14 May was not a good time for the visit, as the ruling party was about to adopt a law on "foreign agents" and a "substantive" conversation was impossible.
During the visit, which will last from 13 to 15 May, the delegation will also hold meetings with members of the Government of Georgia and representatives of the civil sector.
The visit is taking place against the background of events around the adoption of the draft law "On Transparency of Foreign Influence" in the third reading at a committee hearing, against which permanent protests have been held in Tbilisi and other cities of Georgia since 15 April.
"Georgian Dream is planning a plenary session on 14 May, where it intends to adopt the Russian analogue of the law on "foreign agents". On 13 May, the Legal Affairs Committee considered the document in the third reading in a minute, approving it without opposition representatives.
