16 January 2025 14:28

Re-elected Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze is set to make Azerbaijan the destination for his first official foreign visit, arriving on January 17.

According to the Georgian government’s press service, Kobakhidze will co-chair the 10th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation alongside Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov, Caliber.Az reports referring to local media sources.

High-ranking officials from both governments will participate in the discussions, which aim to deepen economic ties between the two neighbouring nations.

Kobakhidze’s agenda includes meetings with top Azerbaijani officials to further strengthen bilateral relations.

The Georgian delegation features prominent leaders, including First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environment and Agriculture David Songulashvili, Minister of Culture Tinatin Rukhadze, and Head of Government Administration Levan Jorjoliani.

Notably, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili will precede the prime minister’s visit with her own official trip to Azerbaijan on January 16. She will represent Georgia at the intergovernmental commission meeting, marking her first visit to Baku since assuming her post in November 2024.

The 9th meeting of the commission took place in Tbilisi on December 15, 2022. This year’s gathering is expected to spotlight trade, cultural exchange, and sustainable development as key areas of cooperation.

Kobakhidze’s visit underscores the strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan, signalling both countries' commitment to fostering regional stability and mutual growth.
