Georgian PM сlaims opposition split driven by rivalry for backers
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said that the country’s opposition is facing a deep internal crisis, arguing that growing divisions among political opponents reflect their weakening position.
According to Georgian media, cited by Caliber.Az, Kobakhidze stated that competition within the opposition camp is driven by attempts by certain groups to gain favour with their backers.
“Within the opposition camp, there is competition linked to attempts by certain groups to appeal to their patrons; this is precisely the cause of the disagreements,” the prime minister said, adding that the “agents” are in a state of division.
His comments come after Levan Khabeishvili, chairman of the political council of the opposition United National Movement party, described as “meaningless” the discussion about the party’s continued participation in the “Alliance of Opposition.”
