Germany appoints Clemens von Goetze as new ambassador to Russia

Germany has appointed former ambassador to China Clemens von Goetze as its new ambassador to Russia, with his tenure beginning on July 20, the German Embassy in Moscow has said.

Von Goetze previously served as head of Political Department No. 3 at Germany's Foreign Ministry in 2014 before taking up ambassadorial posts in Israel, China, Japan and Mexico, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

He succeeds Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, who served as Germany's ambassador to Russia for the past three years and has now been appointed ambassador to Israel.
