Germany plans to expand military presence in the Arctic
Germany intends to strengthen its military presence in the Arctic and aims to make its armed forces the strongest in Europe in the near future, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said at the Munich Security Conference.
“We will enhance security in the Far North, where our military aircraft are already operating, and their number will increase. (…) We will make the Bundeswehr the strongest professional army in Europe as soon as possible,” he pledged, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The Chancellor noted that the world is currently being “restructured” by major powers, and the process is accelerating and deepening. According to him, Germany does not pursue a policy of force, unlike the approach of leadership and partnership.
He stressed that the familiar world order “no longer exists,” that China seeks to lead global changes, and that U.S. leadership is being challenged and “probably lost.” He added that Washington has realised the need to “catch up” with China in certain areas.
“Europe has just returned from a holiday in history,” the Chancellor also assured.
