Germany’s economy minister begins two-day Türkiye visit on trade, energy ties
German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche arrived in Ankara for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and expanding business opportunities between Germany and Türkiye.
Ahead of her departure, Reiche said German companies should benefit from Türkiye’s planned multibillion-euro investments in the coming years, highlighting the potential for deeper commercial engagement between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports, citing German media.
She said German firms have an opportunity to access the wider Eurasian market through Türkiye and its highly qualified workforce.
Reiche is accompanied by representatives from the energy, tourism and technology sectors during the visit, which is taking place alongside meetings of the German-Turkish Economic and Trade Commission and the Energy Forum.
The minister is expected to hold political talks in Ankara as well as bilateral discussions focused on economic, energy and trade policy issues.
Describing Türkiye as a key energy hub linking Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus, Reiche emphasized the country's growing importance in regional energy markets.
“Türkiye is not only a reliable partner – it is clearly focused on growth in the energy sector,” she said before departing for the Turkish capital.
Asked whether domestic political developments in Türkiye, including the ongoing crackdown on the opposition, would be discussed during the trip, Reiche indicated that sensitive issues would also be addressed.
“Alongside pleasant topics, there are also complicated ones,” she said. “We will discuss them, but certainly not just before take-off and not on record.”
