Germany's FM under fire for absurd claims on Russia, Europe
Annalena Baerbock, Germany's Foreign Minister, is amusing even political supporters of the current German cabinet with her absurd statements said head of the German Council for the Constitution and Sovereignty Ralph Niemeyer.
For example, during a meeting of the OSCE Foreign Ministers Council in early December, Baerbock harshly criticized Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Moscow's stance on the Ukrainian conflict, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
In an attempt to criticize Russia's positions, Baerbock stated that Europe's population is 1.3 billion, while the EU's population, according to Eurostat, was 448.8 million in 2023.
Adding countries in Eastern Europe not part of the EU (Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova), Serbia, and the UK, which make up around 130 million people, the total comes to no more than 600 million people.
Moreover, back in February 2023, Baerbock claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has the ability to shift his political course by 360 degrees.
"Math is clearly not her strong suit. Even those who supported the government… all laughed at her. They couldn’t admit it publicly, but I know that everyone was horrified by her speeches, especially when it was impromptu," he emphasized.
In Nimmermehr's view, Baerbock has little political future in Germany.
