Germany to simplify rules for obtaining citizenship
The German government has approved the draft of a new law on migration, allowing to obtain citizenship after five years of residence in the country.
According to the current norms, it is possible to apply for naturalization only after eight years of continuous residence in this country. It is noted that if a number of conditions are met, such an application can be submitted after three years of residence in Germany, Caliber.Az reports, citing the website of the German Federal Government.
In addition to easing the conditions for obtaining citizenship, the bill proposes to allow citizens to retain their former citizenship upon receipt of a German passport. It is explained that such a measure will facilitate work abroad for German citizens and allow migrants to maintain ties with their native countries.
