Germany underscores need to change entire security architecture
Former heads of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) August Hanning and Gerhard Schindler declared the need to completely change the entire German security architecture.
Schindler and Hanning believe the country needs to create a new intelligence agency, following the example of the US National Security Agency or the British Government Communications Center, since the existing German intelligence services suffer from "excess control," Gazeta.ru reports with reference to Bild am Sonntag.
“Special services cannot be turned into a toothless guard dog with a muzzle and an iron chain. Everything should be rechecked,” said former BND leaders.
They added that Berlin could not rely on foreign intelligence services in the long term to fight terrorism in the country and protect German soldiers on missions.
