Germany ups Russian nitrogen fertilizers import by 334 per cent

Germany has increased imports of nitrogen fertilizers from Russia by 334 per cent over the season, according to the Berliner Zeitung (BZ) newspaper, citing the German Agricultural Industry Association.

“Home production of chemicals became too expensive last year and is not getting cheaper today: this is a good reason for Russia to export even more products to Germany and the EU. Because food and fertilizers are not affected by EU sanctions,” the article reads.

The author notes that in the past season, imports of nitrogen fertilizers indispensable for agriculture from the Russian Federation increased by 334 per cent and reached 167,000 tons. At the same time, Russia's share in total imports rose from 5.6 per cent to almost 18 per cent in just one year.
