Grapefruit-sized hail, tornado leave damage in Texas VIDEO
A tornado swept through the city of Mineral Wells, Texas, on the evening of April 28, injuring several people, amid a six-day outbreak of severe storms affecting the Midwest and southern United States.
Local authorities, the tornado struck at around 5:00 p.m. local time, causing significant damage to residential areas and an industrial zone in the city, located about 130 km from Dallas, Caliber.Az reports, citing CNN.
Fire Chief Ryan Dunn said two people were hospitalised, while several others sustained minor injuries.
No fatalities or missing persons have been reported.
A curfew has been imposed in the affected area.
A local school has been converted into a temporary shelter and family reunification center, with assistance provided by the Red Cross.
In addition to the tornado, severe thunderstorms brought large hail across the region—up to grapefruit size in Texas and as large as tennis balls in Missouri.
In Springfield, the storms damaged infrastructure and led to the deaths of animals at a zoo, which has been temporarily closed.
Meteorologists warn that the risk of further tornadoes and severe storms remains high across several states, including Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
