Haaretz: Israel eases restrictions in its north amid talks with Lebanon
Israel has lifted all restrictions that had been in place in the north of the country since the start of hostilities with Hezbollah, as talks are expected this week on the withdrawal of Israeli forces from several areas in southern Lebanon, Haaretz reports.
The outlet said Israel and Lebanon are set to hold negotiations to discuss the possible transfer of some territories to the control of the Lebanese army.
According to the authors, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) may partially withdraw from the so-called “yellow line” in Lebanon, after which the areas would come under the control of the Lebanese Armed Forces.
The Lebanese army is expected to operate in these zones under US supervision.
Israel reportedly lifted all restrictions in its north amid preparations for talks on troop withdrawals from certain areas of Lebanon.
A source in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said that on Sunday, for the first time since March 2, no incidents or exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah were recorded.
