Hakarichay reservoir in liberated Lachin to provide water to 1.8 million people
Head of the Investment and Project Management Department of Azerbaijan Reclamation and Water Management OJSC under the State Water Resources Agency Chingiz Abbasov has said that preparation for feasibility study, design and estimate documentation for Hakarichay reservoir in Lachin district has been completed.
According to him, taking into account the reservoir volume, dam height and topographical conditions, the best option is to locate the dam 6 kilometers northwest of the district center of Lachin on the Khakari River, per Report.
"From the reservoir with a capacity of 100 million cubic meters [earlier 90 million cubic meters was envisaged - ed.] it is planned to provide quality drinking water to 1.8 million people living in Baku and the territories of Lachin, Gubadli, Zangilan, Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Aghdam districts liberated from occupation. The construction of 3 Hydro Power Plants (HPP) with a total capacity of 19.15 MW is envisaged on the main pipeline departing from the Hakarichai reservoir," he noted.
The length of the Hakari River, which originates in Lachin district, is 113 kilometers, the average annual water flow is about 10.7 cubic meters per second. The Hakarichay reservoir is designed to collect drinking water.
