HAMAS calls on mediators to pressure Israel over Gaza ceasefire
HAMAS has called on mediators and the Peace Council to pressure Israel to comply with the Gaza ceasefire agreement and approve the transition to the second phase of the peace plan.
In a post on Telegram following talks in Egypt’s El Alamein, it said Israel should fulfil its obligations under the Gaza agreement, Caliber.Az reports.
The group reiterated that it “agrees with the roadmap proposed to it,” but did not specify what the roadmap entails.
Meanwhile, Al Arabiya reported that Hamas sought during talks with Jared Kushner, the US president’s son-in-law, to ensure that weapons held by the group’s supporters remain in Gaza.
Washington, however, is insisting that the weapons be removed from the enclave.
The El Alamein talks were attended by Kushner and Hamas leaders, as well as mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye and Nikolay Mladenov, a senior representative of the Peace Council for Gaza.
In October 2025, Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip mediated by Egypt, Qatar, the United States and Türkiye.
The initiative consisted of three phases: the first involved a cessation of hostilities, the release of detainees and a partial withdrawal of Israeli forces. Subsequent phases envisaged an end to the conflict and the reconstruction of the enclave, but the sides have yet to move to the second phase of the agreement.
