Heavy rain triggers flash floods, landslides across Herzegovina VIDEO
Heavy rainfall in Herzegovina has caused rivers to burst their banks, flooding roads and threatening homes.
One family was evacuated after rising waters inundated their property, while landslides blocked key routes across the region, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The worst-hit area is north of Mostar, where the Drežanka, a tributary of the Neretva, flooded nearby homes and basements. Authorities also declared emergency measures along the Trebižat River, while regular flood protections were activated along the Buna and Radobolja rivers. Surrounding houses and farmland remain at risk due to the rising water levels.
The main road between Jablanica and Blidinje has been closed following rockslides. The route was severely damaged in last year’s floods, which claimed numerous lives in Jablanica.
Traffic across the region is heavily disrupted. The Auto-Moto Association in Mostar reported that the Bugojno-Kupres road was impassable due to flooding, with vehicles diverted along alternative routes.
Access to Mostar itself has been blocked after several cars became stranded attempting to cross submerged underpasses. Fire crews from Mostar have been pumping water from the roads since early morning.
Meteorologists warn that further rainfall is expected, which could exacerbate flooding and pose additional risks to the region.
