Heavy rainfall in Türkiye causes flooding, kills two

08 April 2026 20:49

Severe rainfall across Türkiye has resulted in at least two deaths and widespread damage to infrastructure.

In Osmaniye province, flooding and mudslides struck the Kadirli district after rivers overflowed, submerging several vehicles. In the Düzici district, a bridge over the Delici River was destroyed, cutting off the road connecting the Karajaoglan neighbourhood to the village of Göllüler, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.

Adverse effects have also been reported in Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa, where streets have flooded and traffic has been disrupted. Local authorities have urged residents to exercise caution amid ongoing risks of flooding, mudslides, and landslides.

According to Haber Global, 44 provinces are expected to experience heavy rain and, in some areas, snow due to cold air masses arriving from the Balkans.

The Turkish Meteorological Service has issued warnings for adverse weather, including in Istanbul and Ankara.
