13 August 2024 15:34
Houthi rebels have taken control of the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) in Sana'a.
A statement by UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk says that the rebels seized documents and vehicles located at the office, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Turk condemned the takeover, describing it as "a complete violation of UN privileges and immunities" and a "serious assault on the UN's ability to fulfill its mandate," particularly regarding human rights oversight.
The incident took place on August 3, but the statement has only been released now.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has demanded that the attackers release the UN premises and return all property.
