Houthis claim strike on US ship
The Houthis from Yemen's Ansar Allah movement have attacked a US ship supporting Israel with drones, as well as ballistic and anti-ship missiles.
"The Yemeni Armed Forces' naval forces, missile forces and unmanned aviation carried out a joint operation using a large number of drones, ballistic and anti-ship missiles, striking a US ship providing support to the Zionist entity," the Ansar Allah spokesman Yahya Sarea told the Houthi-controlled Al Masirah TV channel, according to TASS.
Sarea stressed that the operation was "a preliminary response to the treacherous attack" that the Houthis were subjected to by US forces on December 31.
CENTCOM reported that the Houthis in four small boats approached the Singapore-flagged container ship Hangzhou, opened fire and attempted to board it.
According to a CENTCOM statement, US Navy helicopters on two aircraft carriers nearby sank three of the Houthis' boats. Saria said the US military action killed 10 members of the movement.
