Hundreds of homes remain flooded in Russia’s Dagestan
In the Russian republic of Dagestan, 516 homes across seven settlements remain flooded, along with 556 household plots and 45 sections of roads, Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) said.
Authorities said 523 people, including 173 children, are staying in 16 temporary accommodation centres, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Emergency services are continuing door-to-door inspections, along with disinfection and sanitation work. Engineering equipment has also been deployed for clearing debris and removing waste.
At the end of March and the beginning of April, abnormal heavy rains in several districts of the republic led to flooding and the destruction of residential homes. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, six people have died so far.
A total of up to 1.5 million residents were affected by the emergency zone. 6,229 people, including 1,300 children, were evacuated. A federal emergency regime has been declared in Dagestan and neighboring Chechnya.
