Hungary's Tisza leader calls for immediate resumption of Ukrainian oil transit
Peter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Party following its recent victory in the Hungarian parliamentary elections, has issued a direct challenge to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, demanding an immediate end to what he characterized as the "blackmailing" of Hungary.
In a video address posted to his YouTube channel, Magyar called on Kyiv to restore oil transit via the Druzhba (Friendship) pipeline, a critical energy artery for Central Europe.
"If the pipeline is fit for oil transportation, I ask that it be opened in accordance with the promise," Magyar stated, referring to previous transit agreements.
The demand comes amid heightened tensions over energy security in the region. Magyar’s rhetoric signals a firm stance on protecting Hungary's industrial interests as he transitions into a position of significant political influence.
In addition to the pipeline dispute, Magyar reaffirmed his commitment to the expansion of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant. He described the project as a "necessity" for national energy security, signaling that the new political leadership will continue to prioritize long-term infrastructure projects to stabilize Hungary's power grid.
