Hungary’s Tisza party eyes euro adoption by 2030
Hungary’s election-winning Tisza Party is considering preparing the country for eventual adoption of the euro, with 2030 outlined as a possible target date.
Speaking to Telex, the party’s head of financial policy, András Kárman, said the new government would first conduct a comprehensive review of public finances and hold consultations before setting a formal timeline for joining the eurozone.
Kárman indicated that, under favoгrable economic conditions, Hungary could meet the criteria required for euro adoption by 2030 or potentially earlier. However, he stressed that achieving price stability—a key requirement for eurozone entry—must rely on market-based mechanisms rather than administrative controls, which he said would conflict with the principles of a market economy.
