IAEA chief demands halt to attacks on Zaporizhzhya NPP
Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Raphael Grossi has said that the attack on the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant (NPP) on August 11 was reckless but did not affect the nuclear safety situation.
A fire erupted at one of the two cooling towers at ZNPP, which is believed to have been the result of a drone attack, Caliber.Az reports, citing the IAEA website.
The plant staff told experts that there was no risk of increased radiation levels, and IAEA specialists subsequently conducted a study that confirmed their words.
Grossi said the military actions against the ZNPP are a violation of the plant's protection principles, which the UN Security Council established in May 2023.
“These reckless attacks endanger nuclear safety at the plant and increase the risk of a nuclear accident. They must stop now,” the IAEA chief concluded.
