IDF opens warning fire in northern Gaza amid ceasefire violations
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported renewed incidents in the northern Gaza Strip, where several individuals were spotted crossing the yellow line and approaching IDF positions in violation of the ceasefire agreement.
According to a statement published on the IDF’s official Telegram channel, attempts were made to disperse the individuals peacefully, but when they failed to comply and continued advancing, troops opened fire to neutralise the threat.
The IDF clarified that reports of terrorists infiltrating their positions were unfounded and urged Gazans to follow instructions and avoid approaching deployed forces.
This incident comes shortly after the first phase of the newly brokered ceasefire agreement, which saw Hamas transfer 20 living hostages to Israel on October 13. In parallel, Israeli authorities began releasing approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 250 serving long-term sentences.
Following the release of the surviving hostages, Hamas has also started returning the bodies of those who died in captivity. On October 13, Hamas reported handing over the remains of Israeli citizens Guy Ilouz, Yossi Sharabi, and Daniel Perez, as well as Nepali national Bipin Joshi. Israeli authorities have not yet officially confirmed the identities of the deceased, with formal announcements expected on October 14 or 15.
