Ilham Aliyev is right - Azerbaijan has more friends in CSTO than Armenia does Armenian politician says
Chairman of “Fair Armenia” party Norayr Norikyan has said that he remembers very well the words of President Ilham Aliyev that Azerbaijan has more friends in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) than Armenia does.
"Before responding to a question about whether the CSTO is spoiling relations with Armenia or Armenia with the CSTO, I think we should use clear terms. As far as Armenia is concerned, the CSTO has been a useless structure and has not actually functioned," Norikyan said in an interview with Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.
“In our case, the CSTO has not functioned and will not function for a very simple logic. Russia's problem is to exert equal influence on both Armenia and Azerbaijan. Therefore, if we counted on the CSTO and believed that Articles 2 and 4 of the CSTO Charter would be invoked if necessary, it was in vain. Regardless of what kind of relations we will have with individual CSTO countries, I remember very well the words of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev that Azerbaijan has more friends in the CSTO than Armenia does.
Life has shown the following: The CSTO has not played the role that Armenia expected at any stage of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict settlement. Therefore, it is necessary to realize that Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and other CSTO members can in no way be allies of Armenia when it comes to relations with Azerbaijan. The sooner we realize this, the better. Therefore, we should proceed with expediency," Norikyan concluded.
