India successfully tests indigenous long-range glide bomb
India successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the long-range glide bomb (LRGB) "Gaurav" from a Su-30 MK-I fighter jet of the Indian Air Force, the country’s Defence Ministry announced.
According to the Ministry, the test, carried out off the coast of Odisha, saw the glide bomb accurately hitting its target at Long Wheeler's Island, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Indian Air Force, and industry partners for this achievement, highlighting it as a significant milestone in India's efforts to develop indigenous defence technologies.
The 1,000 kg class Gaurav glide bomb, designed by DRDO's Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad, is capable of striking long-distance targets using a precise hybrid navigation system.
The test was closely monitored by senior DRDO scientists, with participation from development partners Adani Defence and Bharat Forge.
