International leaders back Trump after gunfire disrupts Washington event
World leaders have condemned the violence and expressed relief that US President Donald Trump and attendees of the White House Correspondents’ dinner are safe after shots were fired at the event, CNN reports.
“We strongly condemn the attempted attack against President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump,” Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodríguez wrote on X.
“Violence should never be the way,” Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum said, extending her best wishes to Trump and the First Lady.
Echoing this view, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated: “Political violence has no place in any democracy and my thoughts are with all those who have been shaken by this disturbing event.”
Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed relief over Trump’s safety in messages posted on X.
“Violence has no place in a democracy and must be unequivocally condemned,” Modi wrote.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog described the incident as a “heinous attack,” adding: “We are thankful that the law enforcement officer shot during the attack is safe and on the path of recovery.”
