Iran delays response to Israel amid talks with Trump

13 November 2024 22:45

Iran has decided to delay its response to Israel following warnings issued to Iraq about the potential consequences of allowing an attack to be launched from its territory.

The new developments have pushed back any decision until Iran's upcoming negotiations with US President Donald Trump, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Israeli media reports that some analysts believe that the prospect of an Iranian attack may now be off the table entirely following Trump's re-election.

"There is a high probability that any irrational attack on Israel has been taken off the agenda, as Iranian leader Ayatollah Khamenei and the IRGC leadership are far more intimidated by Trump than they ever were by Kamala Harris," former CEO of Iran's state-run news agency IRNA and history professor Abdullah Naseri Taheri said last week.

On October 1, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched a significant number of rockets at Israel during Operation True Promise 2. The Israeli military stated it would respond to this aggression at its discretion.

Tehran said it had targeted Israel in retaliation for the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, as well as an April attack on Iran's consulate in Damascus, the Syrian capital, that killed two of its generals.

Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran after he attended President Pezeshkian’s inauguration ceremony in July, while Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike. His death came days after several Hezbollah leaders were killed by exploding pagers and walkie-talkies, an attack widely attributed to Israel.
