Iran delegation in Doha focuses talks on frozen funds
Iranian negotiations in Qatar have focused the talks heavily on frozen financial assets, according to a regional diplomat familiar with the talks speaking to Al Jazeera.
“The governor of the Central Bank is part of the delegation to discuss the issue of frozen funds, which is addressed in the [memorandum of understanding] as part of an eventual final deal,” the source said.
The meetings in Doha brought together senior Iranian officials, including top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati.
According to the source, the talks placed particular emphasis on financial disputes, especially the issue of Iranian assets frozen abroad, which Tehran wants addressed as part of any broader agreement.
“The focus of the delegation’s visit to Doha is on issues relating to the Strait of Hormuz and highly enriched uranium,” the regional diplomat said, also noting that these issues formed part of the wider agenda.
