Iran envoy: Russia could receive special passage through Strait of Hormuz
Iran may grant Russia special passage arrangements through the Strait of Hormuz due to the friendly relations between the two countries, Iran's ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
Jalali said Iran applies special considerations to countries it regards as friendly, Russian media reports.
"Undoubtedly, we apply a special regime for the passage of ships for countries friendly to us," the ambassador said when asked about navigation through the strategically important waterway.
However, Jalali stressed that any formal decision regarding shipping arrangements would be made by the Iranian government.
"Our government will make a decision and announce it," he added.
