Iran, Georgia honour memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev PHOTO

Commemorative events were held in Iran and Georgia to honour National Leader Heydar Aliyev on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of his passing, recognising his lasting contributions to Azerbaijan and the wider region.

In Iran, the Azerbaijani Embassy organised a memorial event themed “The Role of Leaders in Strengthening Cultural and Spiritual Ties: Heydar Aliyev and ECO Countries” on the 22nd anniversary of Aliyev’s passing, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

The ceremony was attended by officials from the Iranian Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassadors from ECO countries, and Azerbaijani citizens residing in Iran.

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Iran, Ali Alizade, highlighted Baku’s efforts to strengthen friendly and fraternal relations, as well as cultural and spiritual ties among ECO states, emphasising Aliyev’s unprecedented contribution to this process.

Turkish Ambassador to Iran, Hicabi Kırlangıç, also paid tribute to Aliyev, underlining the pivotal role of leaders in shaping their nations’ destiny. A photo exhibition showcasing Aliyev’s participation in ECO summits, official visits, and his dedication to cultural and spiritual links was subsequently opened.

In Georgia, a series of commemorative activities was held in Tbilisi and Rustavi.

Azerbaijani Ambassador Faig Guliyev, embassy staff, leaders of the Azerbaijani business community, SOCAR representatives, officials from the State Committee for Religious Organisations and the Caucasus Muslim Office, as well as members of the Azerbaijani community and students, laid wreaths and flowers at Heydar Aliyev’s monument in Tbilisi’s Heydar Aliyev Park. 

Participants also visited a memorial plaque on the right bank of the Kura River and a monument in Rustavi’s Heydar Aliyev Park, paying tribute to his legacy.
