Iran gives Swedish diplomat 48 hours to leave country

Iran has ordered an employee of the Swedish diplomatic mission in Tehran to leave the country within 48 hours, Tasnim reports.

The decision was announced after Sweden’s ambassador was summoned to Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

Alireza Yousefi, director of the ministry’s department for Western Europe, protested against what Tehran described as Stockholm’s policies and rhetoric, as well as its granting of asylum to anti-Iranian groups.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the expulsion was a retaliatory measure in response to Sweden’s refusal to allow an Iranian diplomat to continue working at Iran’s embassy in Stockholm.

The Iranian side also rejected the accusations made by the Swedish authorities.
