Iran grants customs exemptions in Strait of Hormuz to Russia
Iran has granted customs duty exemptions for transit through the Strait of Hormuz to several countries, including Russia, according to Kazem Jalali, Tehran’s ambassador to Moscow.
Jalali said the preferential measures are intended for countries considered friendly to Iran, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
“At the moment, our Foreign Ministry is working to apply the exemptions provided for friendly countries, such as Russia,” he stated.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the region. On April 18, Iran’s armed forces said they had reimposed military control over the Strait of Hormuz in response to a U.S. naval blockade. Iranian authorities subsequently declared the waterway closed until the blockade is lifted.
