Iran offers condolences to families of Turkish servicemen killed in plane crash in Georgia

12 November 2025 11:59

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei has expressed condolences to the families of Turkish citizens who lost their lives in the crash of the country’s military aircraft.

“Expressing sympathy with the government and people of Turkiye, the spokesman prayed for divine mercy upon the victims and patience and endurance for the bereaved families,” Caliber.Az quotes the Ministry as saying on X.

On November 11, 2025, a Turkish C-130 military transport aircraft crashed in Georgia while flying from Azerbaijan to Türkiye. The plane was carrying 20 members of the Turkish Armed Forces, including technical service personnel. All on board were killed in the crash.

The crash occurred in mountainous terrain near Georgia's Signagi town. Prior to departure, the aircraft had spent approximately two hours at Ganja airport in Azerbaijan, with no recorded technical issues. Following the crash, search and recovery teams from both Türkiye and Georgia have been working at the site, recovering wreckage and investigating the incident.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, with investigators examining possible technical faults, weather conditions, or other contributing factors.

Search and rescue operations were launched, coordinated between Turkish, Georgian, and Azerbaijani authorities. Georgia’s Interior Ministry also opened an investigation into potential violations of aviation safety or operational protocols that may have contributed to the crash.
