Iran’s Ardabil set to become key trade gateway with Azerbaijan, says president PHOTO

11 September 2025 13:41

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has underscored the significant economic potential of Ardabil province, emphasizing its strategic location as a bridge for exports and economic exchange with neighboring Azerbaijan.

Addressing a gathering of investors and entrepreneurs in Ardabil, located in northwestern Iran, Pezeshkian highlighted the province’s advantageous geopolitical position, sharing a common border with Azerbaijan and proximity to key trade corridors in the Caucasus region, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.

“This province, thanks to its proximity to the Caucasus and access to trade routes, could become a gateway for exports and economic exchange. Why shouldn't Ardabil become a model that other provinces could learn from?” he said, emphasizing the need for innovative development strategies tailored to the region’s unique assets.

Pezeshkian stressed that adopting a new economic approach in Ardabil could effectively address longstanding economic challenges, unlocking the province’s vast potential and fostering sustainable growth.

The president’s visit to Ardabil also included the inauguration of a series of development initiatives. Over the course of the day, 72 projects spanning various sectors were launched, collectively expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 4,700 people.

These ambitious undertakings are part of a broader effort to invigorate Ardabil’s economy, positioning it as a key hub for trade, investment, and cross-border cooperation with Azerbaijan and beyond.
