Iran’s armed force to test new anti-ballistic air defence system
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force is set to test a new domestically developed anti-ballistic missile defence system, the commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force’s Air Defence, General Davood Sheikhian, said.
Speaking during a televised interview, Sheikhian elaborated on the tactics employed in the Payambar-e Azam (The Great Prophet) 19 military exercises held in western Iran, Caliber.Az reports citing Iranian media.
The general emphasized the significance of Iran's advanced air defence capabilities, revealing that the newly developed anti-ballistic system will soon undergo testing. He stated that the introduction of this new system would substantially alter military dynamics and raise concerns among adversarial nations.
During the exercises, the IRGC Aerospace Force deployed various air defence systems to practice electronic warfare. Additionally, on January 6, the commander of the Khatam al-Anbia Air Defence Base, which is central to Iran's air defence operations, announced the installation of a range of new and classified air defence systems near the country's strategic locations.
In 2018, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, underscored the importance of the Air Defence Base, describing it as a critical element in Iran's military infrastructure. Khamenei called for further enhancement of its capabilities and urged a swift increase in the readiness of the base and the personnel serving in Iran's Air Force.
