Iran’s IRGC confirms death of Basij forces commander

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed the death of Major General Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Basij forces, SNN reports,citing the IRGC press service.

Earlier, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) had stated that Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani was struck during airstrikes on Iran.

The Basij forces form a core component of Iran’s security apparatus. During periods of domestic unrest—especially in the most recent wave of intensified protests—units operating under Soleimani’s command spearheaded key crackdowns, using severe force, widespread arrests, and coercive measures against civilian demonstrators.
