Iran's president vows to carry out full strategic pact with Russia

12 December 2025 15:51

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has declared Tehran’s intention to implement all provisions of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty with Russia.

Speaking at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Turkmenistan's Ashgabat, Pezeshkian said Iran is committed to fulfilling every clause of the agreement, Caliber.Az reports via TASS.

The discussion took place during a forum marking the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty is a 20-year agreement signed on January 17, 2025, by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation across diplomacy, security, energy, trade, and technology.

Both Russia’s parliament (State Duma and Federation Council) and Iran’s Majles have ratified the treaty, legally solidifying it as the framework for long-term political, economic, and military-technical ties, though it does not include a mutual defence clause like formal alliances do.

The treaty officially came into force on October 2, 2025, establishing benchmarks for cooperation on shared security threats, intelligence sharing, and broader coordination in multilateral forums amid Western sanctions.
