Iran: Sanctions relief central priority in nuclear talks
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei said the removal of sanctions remains the primary focus of the ongoing nuclear negotiations.
Speaking to reporters, Baqaei said Tehran is engaging in talks with “good faith and seriousness,” and expressed hope that the American delegation will demonstrate the same commitment, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
“The negotiation process began yesterday when we held discussions with the Omani Foreign Minister,” Baqaei noted.
“At the same time, we met with Rafael Grossi, as the technical aspects of these talks are crucial.”
He added that Iran has assembled both technical experts and a specialist team dedicated to sanctions relief, describing it as “an inseparable component of any agreement on the nuclear issue.”
Iran and the United States have resumed nuclear negotiations in Geneva, mediated by Oman, with Tehran insisting that lifting sanctions is an essential part of any agreement. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei said the talks are being conducted “in good faith and seriousness,” adding that technical discussions with the IAEA are also underway to address crucial nuclear issues.
President Donald Trump has signalled a warning to Tehran, urging them to “make a deal or face consequences,” creating an informal deadline that heightens the stakes. Meanwhile, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have risen, with Iran conducting naval drills and the U.S. deploying additional military assets, including a second warship entering the waterway, highlighting the strategic leverage at play.
