Iran slams German FM's Hormuz remarks as "grotesque distortion of reality"
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has sharply criticised comments made by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, describing them as a “grotesque distortion of reality.”
The German Foreign Minister’s rhetoric on the Strait of Hormuz is utterly shameful — a grotesque distortion of reality that reeks of Mephistopheles in Goethe’s Faust.

“The German Foreign Minister’s rhetoric on the Strait of Hormuz is utterly shameful — a grotesque distortion of reality that reeks of Mephistopheles in Goethe’s Faust.
Germany must be held fully accountable for its complicity in military aggression against Iran and bear the heavy costs of its active participation in the crime of aggression.
No amount of offensive posturing will allow the Berlin regime to evade responsibility for its role in this illegal war and the war crimes committed against the Iranian people,” Baghaei wrote on X.
The comments came after German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said in an interview with Handelsblatt newspaper that Iran had unlawfully mined an international shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz and should ultimately bear the costs of any mine-clearance operation.
He noted that while European partners, including Germany, do not intend to charge a fee for such clearance at this stage, it would be justified for Iran to pay since the operation would address damage caused by the Iranian regime.
Wadephul emphasised that no incentives should be offered to Tehran for allowing the mission.
