Iran steel giant says repairs after strikes may take up to year
Iran’s Khuzestan Steel Company said repairs to facilities damaged in recent US and Israeli strikes could take between six months and one year, as the company assesses the scale of destruction.
According to Iran International, Mehran Pakbin, deputy director for production, stated that all modules and steelmaking furnaces at the company’s complex in Ahvaz were damaged.
The strikes, which took place last week, affected two of Iran’s largest steel producers — Khuzestan Steel and Mobarakeh Steel Company — after US and Israeli attacks targeted industrial sites in central and southwestern parts of the country.
Pakbin said restarting production would require at least six months and could take up to a year. He added that the company plans to rely on domestic expertise for the recovery process.
Khuzestan Steel Company, based in Ahvaz, is Iran’s second-largest producer of steel raw materials, after Isfahan Mobarakeh Steel Company.
