Iran urges IAEA member states to condemn Israel’s nuclear facility attack
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on ambassadors from member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors to condemn an unlawful Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
Speaking at a diplomatic gathering in Tehran on June 15, which included foreign envoys, international officials, and mission heads, Araghchi emphasized the urgency of global action in response to the strike, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
"Regarding the attack on the Natanz nuclear facility, I have requested that the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency convene an emergency session on this matter," Araghchi stated.
The session is reportedly scheduled for June 16.
“We hope that the IAEA Board of Governors will strongly condemn the Zionist regime’s attack on nuclear facilities as a clear violation of international law,” he said.
"I urge the distinguished ambassadors of IAEA Board member states to convey this matter to their respective capitals. Both Iran and the international community expect a firm denunciation of this assault on nuclear infrastructure—and even punitive measures against the Zionist regime for its actions," Araghchi added.
"This attack could represent the ultimate red line under international law. If the international community remains indifferent to such violations, the consequences will inevitably extend beyond Iran and affect other countries as well," the Iranian foreign minister warned.
on June 13, Israel launched a large-scale airstrike targeting over 100 sites across Iran, including key nuclear and missile facilities in Tehran, Natanz, Ahvaz, and East Azerbaijan Province. The operation involved around 200 aircraft and more than 330 precision-guided munitions, aiming to halt Iran’s nuclear weapons development and eliminate senior IRGC commanders and scientists.
Israeli leaders described the strikes as a preemptive move against existential threats from Iran. Tehran blamed Israel and the US for the attack and vowed strong retaliation, launching over 100 drones towards Israel and closing its airspace.
