Iran VP threatens with retaliatory operation “Mersad-2”
Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref visited a national crisis management headquarters, where he underscored the country’s preparedness to respond to potential security threats.
During the visit, Aref said that if incidents similar to Operation “Forugh Javidan” were to occur again, Iran’s law enforcement agencies and armed forces would be ready to carry out a retaliatory operation codenamed “Mersad-2," ISNA reports
He emphasised that national unity, operational readiness, and coordination among state institutions are essential components of maintaining security and countering emerging threats. He added that all national resources should be directed toward ensuring public safety and the uninterrupted delivery of services.
Aref also stressed that public services must continue without disruption as part of broader crisis management efforts.
Operation Operation Mersad, carried out between July 26 and 31, 1988, was a major Iranian counter-offensive at the end of the Iran-Iraq War. It resulted in the destruction of an estimated 7,000 fighters from the People's Mujahedin of Iran, also known as the Iranian Mujahideen, who were supported by Iraq at the time.
