Iran warns US forces will be targeted if entering Strait of Hormuz
US military forces will be targeted if they attempt to approach or enter the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s joint military command has said.
According to the statement from Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, safe passage through the strait must be coordinated with Iranian armed forces, Iranian media reports.
“We warn that any foreign armed forces, especially the aggressive US military, will be targeted if they intend to approach or enter the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement said, adding that any US attempts to alter the current situation would further complicate conditions and endanger shipping in the area.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that the United States planned to begin an operation called “Project Freedom” on the morning of May 4 to escort vessels that had become stranded in the Strait of Hormuz due to the military conflict.
