Iranian FM: Syria’s future should not be shaped by foreign powers
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that foreign interference in determining Syria's future is unacceptable.
Araghchi made these remarks during his visit to China, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"Iran believes that the decision regarding Syria’s future is an exclusive prerogative of its people, without destructive external interference or the imposition of foreign will," the minister emphasised.
He further stressed that Iran respects Syria's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Both Iran and China have previously supported Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's administration.
Earlier, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on Syria's youth with firm determination to stand against those who have caused instability in the country. Syria's new Foreign Minister Assad Hassan al-Shibani urged Iran to respect the will of the Syrian people and the country's sovereignty. On December 8, the armed opposition in Syria announced that it had taken control of Damascus and was working on forming transitional governing bodies.
