Iranian FM to visit Türkiye on January 30 for high-level regional, bilateral talks
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will visit Ankara on January 30 for high-level talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, covering a broad range of bilateral and urgent regional issues that underscore the strategic importance of Türkiye-Iran relations for Middle East stability.
Minister Fidan is expected to reaffirm Ankara’s commitment to strengthening ties through mechanisms such as the High-Level Cooperation Council, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
A central aim of the dialogue is progress toward a mutual target of $30 billion in bilateral trade, with expanded collaboration in energy, transportation, and border commerce sectors.
Fidan will also stress that Türkiye considers Iran’s security and stability vital for the broader region and will reiterate firm opposition to any foreign military intervention against its neighbour, citing potential global consequences.
The discussions will also address major regional crises. On the situation in Gaza, Fidan is likely to underscore the urgency of concrete measures, including sustained humanitarian aid and support for reconstruction efforts. Regarding Syria, the emphasis will be placed on upholding the ceasefire and maintaining the country’s territorial integrity.
Additionally, Türkiye is expected to raise concerns about the role of PJAK, the Iranian branch of the PKK, in recent unrest, asserting that neutralising the group is crucial for Iran’s internal security. This position aligns with Türkiye’s longstanding stance against all factions of the designated terrorist organisation.
The meeting comes amid rising regional tensions and follows a series of diplomatic engagements. The most recent session of the High-Level Cooperation Council occurred in early 2024, while the two ministers last met in Tehran in late 2025.
As of November 2025, trade between the two countries reached around $5 billion. The Ankara talks serve as a vital channel for de-escalation and strategic coordination, positioning Türkiye as a central advocate for diplomatic solutions in its neighbourhood.
