Iranian Foreign Minister arrives in Moscow for high-level talks

17 April 2025 13:58

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Moscow for an official visit, aiming to engage in a series of strategic discussions with Russian counterparts on a broad spectrum of bilateral and international issues.

The visit was confirmed via the minister’s official Telegram channel, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

Upon arrival in the Russian capital, Araghchi addressed members of the press, stating that a key focus of his meetings would be the ongoing negotiations with the United States concerning Tehran’s nuclear program.

“We have always consulted closely with our friends in Russia on nuclear issues, and now there is a good opportunity to do the same with Russian officials,” he remarked.

In addition to nuclear-related matters, the Iranian Foreign Minister noted that his discussions in Moscow would include regional security issues, with particular attention to what he described as “ongoing Israeli crimes,” as well as the conflict in Ukraine. He indicated that recent geopolitical developments occurring during the course of his trip would also be addressed.

Iran’s Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, had earlier outlined the agenda of the visit, stating that Araqchi’s meetings would encompass the advancement of bilateral relations, regional cooperation, coordination on the international stage, and an assessment of the current state of the Iranian-American dialogue on the nuclear issue.

During his weekly press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei announced that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is visiting Moscow at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. He emphasized that the visit forms part of the ongoing high-level consultations between the two nations, which regard each other as strategic partners.

Baqaei further noted that Minister Araghchi’s agenda in Moscow includes discussions on a range of issues, including bilateral relations, regional and international developments, as well as the latest round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States.
