Iranian official: Moscow, Tehran pursue "civilised’ diplomacy unlike US

Iranian official Ali Bagheri has accused the United States of pursuing a “barbaric approach” to international affairs, contrasting it with what he described as the “civilised” diplomacy practiced by Iran and Russia.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the First International Security Forum organised by Russia’s Security Council, Bagheri — Iran’s deputy secretary of the Supreme National Security Council — said independent nations should resolve disputes through cooperation and diplomacy rather than force, Caliber.Az reports via TASS. 

“Independent countries stand shoulder to shoulder with one another on the basis of justice, cooperation, and diplomacy,” Bagheri said. “This is a civilised approach to resolving various issues. Independent countries such as Iran and Russia are moving along this path.”

He criticised the U.S. policy slogan “peace through strength,” arguing that it amounted to achieving peace through “crime, the killing of people, and brutality.”

“This is not the approach of civilised states; it is a barbaric approach,” Bagheri said.

The Iranian official added that Tehran and Moscow remain committed to negotiations and diplomacy and “do not act through the use of force.”
