Iranian president meets armed forces commander, praises courage, decisive actions
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held talks on Thursday (May 21) with the Commander of the Iranian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Amir Hatami, in a meeting focused on national defence policy, military readiness, and regional security developments.
According to statements released by the president’s press office, Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for the armed forces, particularly the army, for what he described as their “courage and decisive actions” in countering external pressure and hostile activity.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening Iran’s defence capabilities.
The president stressed the importance of continuously improving military preparedness, highlighting ongoing state support for programmes aimed at modernising equipment, expanding logistical capacity, upgrading operational infrastructure, and enhancing deterrence capabilities.
During the meeting, General Hatami presented a briefing on the current operational status of the armed forces, including recent missions, defensive measures, and responses to perceived security threats. He also discussed efforts to restore and further improve combat readiness during the current ceasefire period, noting increased coordination among units and upgrades in both combat and support systems.
Hatami stated that the armed forces, drawing on operational experience, remain fully prepared to respond to any potential threats or provocations.
He further emphasised the morale and ideological commitment of military personnel, describing the force as fully dedicated to defending Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security.
