Iranian, Russian leaders highlight visa-free regime as part of strategic partnership

17 January 2025 21:53

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has announced the ongoing work on a mutual visa-free regime between the two countries.

President Pezeshkian made these remarks during a press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

"Regarding the visa-free regime between our countries, we discussed it in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Moscow and Tehran and will continue discussing it further," Pezeshkian said in his speech after the signing of the agreement.

President Pezeshkian also expressed gratitude to President Putin for contribution to building strong, fraternal relations between Iran and Russia. In response, Putin highlighted the significant increase in reciprocal tourist flows between the two countries. He attributed this to the direct flights between numerous Russian and Iranian cities, as well as the 2023 agreements regarding visa-free group tourist travel.

On January 17, Putin and Pezeshkian signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement in Moscow. The document outlines legal frameworks for long-term cooperation between the two countries. The agreement spans various sectors, including defence, counterterrorism, energy, finance, transport, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and technology. Putin described the agreement as a groundbreaking document, emphasising that it is designed to create the necessary conditions for the stable and sustainable development of both Russia and Iran, as well as the broader Eurasian region.
