Iraq orders hunt for perpetrators of drone attacks
Iraqi authorities have launched efforts to identify and prosecute those responsible for a series of drone attacks targeting key sites across the country, according to an official statement.
Sabah al-Numan, spokesperson for the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, described the attacks on oil facilities and diplomatic sites as terrorist acts in a post on Facebook, cited by Caliber.Az.
He said Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had instructed all security and intelligence agencies to track down and prosecute those behind the attacks. The targets included the Majnoon oil field, the Al-Rasheed International Hotel, and the headquarters of the United States Embassy in Baghdad.
“Against the backdrop of these targets, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr. Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, has ordered all security and intelligence services to track down, prosecute those responsible and immediately bring them to justice so that they receive fair punishment, and stressed that ‘the security of the state and the safety of its citizens are a red line that must not be crossed,’” al-Numan wrote.
He also reported that Iraqi security forces, including members of Popular Mobilisation Forces (Al-Hashd al-Shaabi), had come under attack, resulting in several fatalities.
